Description
The charm of Asahiyaki Kase is brought out by the flames of the pine split wood of the climbing kiln. The expression of Kase is not like that of Shigaraki's natural glaze or Bizen's Hidasuki, which leave no obvious traces of fire, so it is not the kind of pottery that anyone would recognize as having been fired in a woodfired kiln. However, the best pieces fired in the climbing kiln show a complex and fascinating gradation of colours that cannot be reproduced in an electric or gas kiln. Kase chawan here has such a complex and multi-layered colour gradation. The most aged clay is used for Kase, that is the finest and whitest. When the clay is fired with ash glaze, the oxidized parts take on a yellow colour. Pale yellow, in some cases quite close to white, is mainly beautiful for fine Kase. The gradations of orange, green to bluish grey are so miraculous that it is hard to know exactly what changes in the kiln bring them out. If a few pieces such as this can be gotton from a single firing, it means that it was a good kiln firing. ven if the colours are not as complex as this, it is only about 10% of the pieces that we find beautiful. To produce that ten percent, we fire a climbing kiln.\n\nSize Φ130×h70 mm\nMaterial Kase" local clay "\nGlaze Transparent glaze\nFiring Genyo " climbing kiln "\nPacking Wooden box" We will make a wooden box after ordering.
